Hardly once did the former President give the vice president the respect she was due by acknowledging her title–vice president. Instead, he referred to Kamala by her pronoun pointing with one finger without making eye contact. “Her.” “She.” If he had referred to Kamala by her actual title, the insecure Trump would’ve probably felt diminished. Not Ms. Harris, or Kamala, a name he has difficulty pronouncing, but most of the time, “she.” On the other hand, the vice president often referred to Trump as the “former President,” or simply as “Trump,” the plosive consonant reverberating in the air taking up more room than it should. After more than eight years of listening to the man, I can’t wait for the vice president to ascend to the highest office of the land and hear the Donald call her “Madame President.”
He Gave Kamala the Finger

I think that handshake the VP forced at the outset of the debate is probably the closest that guy will ever get to affording Harris the respect she is due.
Trump’s refusal to address Vice President Harris by her proper title, instead referring to her as “she” or “her,” highlights his disregard for women, especially women in power. In contrast, Harris calling him “former President” reinforces her respect for protocol and the peaceful transfer of power. It will be fitting irony if/when he has to call her “Madame President.”
